Project Lead, Moms Together

Location: Remote, Canada

Hours: Full time, flexible hours

The Organization

Being a mom is an extremely difficult job. But unlike other industries, moms have neither a trade union nor lobbyists to advocate for their collective interests in issues like education, climate action, healthcare, child care or the cost of living. Moms Together deploys a dual strategy to increase the political engagement of Canadian moms and directly address acute challenges by launching our own initiatives.

Our initiatives to date include “Buy Together”, a bulk buying program to bring down the cost of diapers, “Medfinders” a digital platform to find available medicine during the 2022 children’s medicine shortage, “Morning Mom”, a low-cost local event listing service as well as several advocacy campaigns (more info: https://www.momstogether.ca). We were founded in 2022 and are currently being incubated by Supermajority and the Small Change Fund.

Our Ideal Candidate

We’re seeking a mom who has built highly-engaged communities or movements. While we anticipate our ideal candidate will be a political organizer, a community organizer or a creator economy entrepreneur we’re open to being surprised by candidates from different backgrounds. If you’re passionate about the issues facing moms in Canada and have a proven track record of building large, highly-engaged communities on- and off-line, you would be a good candidate for this job.

In addition to this core requirement, our ideal candidate would likely also have most of the following characteristics:

  • A charismatic leader - you can embody a big vision and naturally inspire enthusiasm for it in others

  • A compelling storyteller - you have a knack for narratives and are fluent in all languages of the internet (text, image, audio, video)

  • Effective digital marketer - you understand how messages reach audiences amongst the algorithm and platform dynamics of 2024

  • Experienced in human-centred product, program or service design - you understand how to talk to users, understand their needs, and translate those insights into new products, programs or services

  • Politically engaged - you care about politics and understand how movements throughout history have built power

A lot of our work is focussed on suburban regions in Canada, especially the GTHA and the Greater Vancouver area, so lived experiences in these locales will be considered an asset.

The Job

As the lead of Moms Together you will be in charge of orchestrating a strategy to attract, engage and mobilize moms. In addition to leading the deployment of existing programs you’ll be in charge of making executive decisions about which new programs to develop and which to cut. Leading a small staff team of 4 (+/-) and a handful of contractors you will find that experience in recruitment, setting clear direction and managing performance will serve you well. You will also spend a fair amount of time engaging with moms to make sure that their needs are driving Moms Together programs.

Finally, you will work closely with the lead of Supermajority incubator to develop the overall strategy and contribute to future fundraising efforts.
