to wait for surgery
End Long Wait Times for Kids' Surgeries in Ontario
As moms, we know how important it is to keep our kids healthy. But right now in Ontario, too many children are waiting far too long for the surgeries they need. In fact, 1 in 10 kids who need surgery have been waiting more than 230 days—and that’s just not right.
Between 2020 and 2023, nearly 30% of kids didn’t get their surgeries on time. These delays mean more than just numbers—our children are in pain, missing school, and losing out on activities that are important for their growth and happiness.
Here’s what’s happening:
Wait times are getting worse: In 2019, the longest wait time was 173 days. By 2023, that jumped to 257 days.
Kids are suffering: Long waits leave children in pain and unable to do the things they love.
Families are struggling: Many parents have to miss work and pay extra for care while their kids wait for surgery.

Kids are waiting too long for surgeries, with 1 in 10 in Ontario waiting over 230 days. We need more funding, pediatric surgeons, and better waitlist management to ensure children get the care they need when they need it.
We need to stand together and ask the Ontario government to do more. We’re calling for:
More funding for kids’ surgeries so wait times go down
More doctors who can do these surgeries to meet the growing demand
Better organization of surgery waitlists to help speed things up
Our kids shouldn’t have to wait this long to get the care they need. Let’s make sure their health comes first.
